What Are Dental Veneers?

Veneers are custom-made, thin porcelain shells that cover the front of your teeth. The main purpose of dental veneers is to hide imperfections to give you a more confident smile. Veneers can help correct the following problems:

  • Large gaps between teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Stains and discoloration

Veneers end up looking like a brighter, straighter version of your own natural teeth. This also makes them a great option for you if you’re wanting to improve your smile that has been worn down by age.

Dental Veneers Procedure

If you’re ready to fix your imperfect smile, you can come into Weddell Dental and leave with a brand new set of perfect teeth. Dr. Weddell uses advanced technology at his dentist office in Bloomington, MN to shape thin pieces of porcelain that he will then adhere to the surface of your teeth.

We will prepare your teeth for the veneers by removing some of the enamel from your teeth to accommodate for the thickness of the veneer. Once the veneer is bonded to your tooth, it was be adjusted to make sure it looks natural and matches the rest of your teeth.

What Is Teeth Bonding?

Dental bonding is a technique that uses a composite resin to fix imperfections in your teeth. The main purpose of teeth bonding is to improve the appearance of your teeth and make them stronger. Bonding can help with the following issues:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Minor stains
  • Receding gums and exposed roots
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Cracked teeth

Teeth Bonding Procedure

For teeth bonding, the first step is a consultation with Dr. Weddell. We will use that time to go over your goals and treatment options. If we decide teeth bonding is right for you, we will choose a composite resin color that matches your teeth the best.

When you’re ready to begin, we will prepare the surface of your tooth for the resin. Then we will lightly coat your teeth with a liquid that helps the bonding material stick.

When your teeth are ready, we will apply the tooth-colored resin and then shape and smooth it until it matches the look we want. Then an ultraviolet light or laser is used to harden the material.

Once the material is hardened, we will trim and shape it again as needed. Then we will polish it to make it match the rest of the tooth’s surface.

Do I Need Veneers Or Dental Bonding?

As similar as the two options sound, there’s one big difference between the two. Bonding usually works best for minor imperfections or issues, while veneers work better for patients with more dramatic dental conditions.

If you’re looking for a permanent solution instead of a temporary one, veneers are likely the best option for you. Additionally, dental veneers tend to look more natural than bonding.

However, both options can fix the issues you have with your smile and deliver the results you want. The best way to find out which option is right for you is to sit down with us for a consultation.
