Each crown can be custom-designed for your mouths so they will look natural and blend in with the rest of your smile.
What Problems Can You Fix With A Dental Crown?
Dental crowns have been used for centuries to help people repair damaged teeth. The materials have gotten better and better. They are more durable and look more natural than they ever have.
Odds are, you know someone who has a dental crown, although you may not realize it. That’s how lifelike ceramic crowns can be. That’s doesn’t explain why people get dental crowns, however.
Here are just a few reasons you may want to get a CEREC crown, some of which you will recognize from our introduction:
◼ You have a large cavity.
◼ You have a cracked tooth.
◼ You have chipped or broken tooth.
◼ You have a discolored tooth.
◼ You need a root canal.
◼ You have a tooth that is worn down.
◼ You have a misshapen tooth.
◼ You are missing a tooth.
As you can see, dental crowns are a versatile restorative solution. Dr. Kenneth Weddell will gladly examine your mouth and let you know if a dental crown could work for you.
Getting A Dental Crown
The process for getting a dental crown is similar for most of the problems mentioned above. To start, your dentist will reshape your tooth.
By doing this, the dentist forms your tooth into an abutment. This removes the cavity, crack, discoloration or other problem. It also creates a place to bond your dental crown in place when it is ready.
If you are missing a tooth, we won’t have anything to reshape. In those cases, we could place a dental implant in your jaw instead. An implant is a substitute for the root of your missing tooth. It also has an abutment on one end to support a dental crown.
The old way of doing this was to order your dental crown from a dental lab. This would mean waiting weeks to get your crown back. The time can vary depending on where the lab is located and how many orders were received before yours.
In the meantime, the dentist can place a temporary crown on your abutment. Temporary crowns typically aren’t as sturdy as permanent crowns, so hopefully, nothing will happen to it before your real crown arrives.
Getting A CEREC Dental Crown
The initial steps for getting a CEREC crown are the same as with any other dental crown. Your tooth is reshaped, or your dental implant is placed.
The difference is that we can create your CEREC crown that same day with our in-office milling machine. The CEREC machine takes a cube of ceramic material and reshapes it to look like the top of one of your real teeth.
When it’s ready, we can bond your permanent dental crown to your tooth before you leave. (With a dental implant, we may need to wait until you have healed from the implant placement procedure before placing the crown.)
That means you can leave our office with a sturdy and secure dental crown. Your smile can look complete once again, and you can feel confident eating the foods that you want to eat.
